Math Department Goal 2014-2015

Assessment results on the GA Milestones, Interims, and Posttests in math will be above the GCPS average.

Leader Implementation Plan:

  • Develop and implement a collaborative, school-wide process for needs assessment and planning to meet student needs
  • Offer professional learning opportunities that focus on the Quality Plus Teaching Strategies and on research-based professional best practices.
  • Review lesson plans regularly to affirm and confirm that Quality Plus Teaching Strategies are being used to plan and  implement lessons as well as to promote student engagement and increase academic achievement
  •  Create processes and materials to assisting teachers to analyze and review  assessment data (Common assessments, Interim/ Posttest) with teachers to assess student knowledge and increase student achievement and provide support to this process through supervision of the Curriculum Council
  • Use common curriculum planning time, faculty meetings, committees, consultations, and written communication to share effective teaching strategies to increase student achievement and reward and recognize excellence among teachers and staff
  • Discuss and model a variety of research-based educational and management strategies during meetings that teachers can implement in their own classroom
  • Organize and participate in periodic Vertical Meetings in order to review data, share instructional strategies, reinforce skills previously learned,  and review best instructional practices as it relates to math
  • Provide supervision and support to school-wide programs such as Gifted, Honors, ARE Time, IB Exploration, Tech team/eCLASS Innovators, and Title I

RESULTS:

6th Grade Math +14% Meet and Exceeds and 18% Average Scale Score

8th Grade Math +7% Meet and Exceeds and +12% Average Scale Score 

6th Grade Reading +10% Scale Score and 8th Grade Reading +8% Scale Score

8th Grade Science +8% Meets and Exceeds and +6% Average Scale Score 

7th Grade Science +6% Average Scale Score

6th Grade Social Studies +7% Meets and Exceeds

7th Grade Social Studies +6% Meets and Exceeds and +18% Average Scale Score

8th Grade Social Studies +10% Meets and Exceeds and +11% Average Scale Score

 

The data sets pictured below demonstrate an overall positive four-year trend.

While growth did not occur in all areas, no area decreased by greater than 4 percentage points.

As Curriculum and Instruction AP, I support all subject areas through school wide programs, but have served as the Math Direct Support AP for two of the past three years.






As the Direct Support AP for our Math Department, I assist teachers in reaching our goal of student achievement that is above the county average on district common assessments. So far this year we have realized this goal in 14 out of the 18 areas for which we have data.
